I've learned in these forums that the high end capture cards like Hollywood+ and Dazzle have real-time hardware compression for mpeg2, but I'm also very pleased with the capture quality and flexibility of my cheapo Askey card. I wonder if there's any add-on mpeg2 compression hardware which doesn't involve getting the entire package, such as a stripped down PCI card. I also am upgrading my AGP card to a GeForce3, but haven't heard about any real-time video conversion utilities for any of the cards. Anyone have some news on these subjects?

Don't know any add-on compression hardware for realtime, but if you have a fast computer and using CCE SP2.5, you can encode your captured AVI to MPEG2 in almost real-time. CCE is the fastest Software Encoder out there that I know.
For example, if you have a 1 minute AVI clip, CCE will encode it to Mpeg2 in about 1min (or less if u have a dual processor system). -
Do you know if the CCE Lite version is as quick? I doubt I'll be able to obtain the other versions for over 3,000 bucks a pop.
