  1. is converting a MPG that is in very good quality to a SVCD worth it over converting it to a VCD to be played on TV?

also if i have a poor quality MPG would converting it to SVCD make it look better then if i was to convert it to a VCD?.....

Is the MPEG, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2? MPEG-1 is used with VCD and MPEG-2 is used with SVCD. I'm not sure, but I suspect that if you have to convert between the two formats there may be some loss of quality in the conversion process.

If you had asked: If I have a good/bad quality AVI..." I would say, if it is good quality encode it to MPEG-2 and SVCD format, or bad quality encode it to MPEG-1 and VCD format.

  3. sorry....

it is MPEG1 and in VERY good quality...

u say MPG1 is used for VCD and MPG2 is used for SVCD.......now i am lost....i am very new to this and it all seems like another language...does that mean that i SHOULD ONLY burn my MPG1 videos to VCD AND NOT to SVCD???????????????????????????

  4. Well, since you said the mpeg you have is mpeg-1 with excellent quality, then your best bet is to encode it t VCD... and your wondering why right?

well i'll tell you, because if ur mpeg is an mpeg-1 (VCD) then when your going to encode it to VCD it wont lose anyquality, but if you encode it to SVCD then the resolution and stuff get bigger and then you will lose quality, when encoding any video at all whatsoever, the quality is either the same or less, never gets better at all...

You can always add filters to make it brighter and so on, but no need, your best bet is to encode to VCD, you encode to SVCD when you got maybe a good looking AVi file or ripping from DVD, ok later
