TMPGEnc 1246 kbps template question

Hi,
can anyone tell me what the Video-CD 1246 kbps template in the extra directory is for? Does it create a VCD with an additional 100 kbps data for video? How is that compatible with the "official" VCD 2.0 standard and will it play on all VCD capable machines?
It makes sense to me to get as much bandwidth for MPEG-1 video as possible but where do the extra 100 kbps come from?

There is the audio set to 128 kbps instead of 224. So it is a XVCD.

I see. Won't that make VCDs sound even crappier than they already do? Have you tried it out?
Is the trade off worth it?

I use tooLAME for audio encoding. For me 128 is acceptable, unless it is a music video.

At 224kbps, MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio has essentially CD quality sound. If your audio sounds crappy there is probably another reason for it...

As Truman has stated, if you are using TMPGEnc (which has a poor audio encoder), you should use the tooLAME plug-in for audio encoding.
