  1. Hi. These are questions from a newbie, so I hope you have patience.
I authored a DVD using Adobe Premiere 6.5, Matrox RT2500, Adobe's encoder, and Ulead DVD Workshop 1.3. This DVD contains a movie, 4 menus, and 22 chapters. Instead of burning the disc using the Ulead application, I opted to create both a DVD directory and a DVD disc image file.

What Ulead created for me was these 3 things:

    1. a folder called VIDEO_TS. this folder contains about 8 files all with extensions of bup, ifo, and vob.

    2. a folder called AUDIO_TS. this folder contains nothing and is empty.

    3. a file with an iso extension.

My problem is, I don't know what to do with these files, I don't know what they are or what their purposes are for, and I don't know how to successfully burn these to a disc so that I can use the disc in most standalone players.

If I double click on the iso file, the Easy CD Creator application comes up, but I don't know what to do from there. Will this file reference the 2 folders that I mentioned above?

I also thought I might also be able to just burn the 2 folders directly to my disc, based on what I've read in other forums, however, I'm concerned that that won't work because it just seems that the size of these 2 folders is too small to hold the entirety of my movie, menus and chapters.

I am using the Sony DRU-500A drive. Presumably I can use any type of media, DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW. Does the type of media that I use drive the manner in which I burn my discs?

I am using Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum.

What is iso, vob, bup, ifo? I've looked almost everywhere and I can't find anything that will definitively tell me what I need to do or what this stuff means. HELP...have mercy on me!

Thanks in advance for any help anyone out there can offer.

    Sincerely and with warm regards,

    Alex

  2. if you dvd files are under 4.7 gigs then your are ok otherwise you are going to have to redo it and make it smaller or split it onto two dvds. i have always use nero for burning dvd files. i also have the sony dru 500a but make sure you have the latest version of nero if you are going to use it. as for dvds you should look up your dvd player to see what format it plays by clicking on dvd players compatibility on the left of the screen. if i was you i would start off with a rw dvd at first so in case something happens you can re use it.

  3. mmmm. thanks for the response, but I regret that you didn't answer any of my questions. should i just directly burn the _TS folders onto disc? do i also need to burn the iso file on there as well?

what is the difference between all these different file extensions and what purpose do they serve?

what is the correct way to burn? i'm not using nero, but rather Roxio, so if you have any experience with that, i would definitely appreciate it.

    thanks again.

  4. not sure how Roxio works i have always used nero for burnig. it creates its own TS folders all you do is add your dvd files iso bup vob etc. well if you made your dvd files into a iso image. you could try using dvd decrypter. not aure what the iso image is....

    I don't have a DVD burner, but...

With ISO file you can mount a Virtual DVD using DEAMON TOOLS. Then you have a virtual DVD drive you can check out if everything is working fine. Then a simple DVD copy to a real DVD-R would make it go.

With VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders you can use a program like NERO to burn to a real DVD. There is a step-by-step guide in this site/forum.

  6. Ok the answer to your question is in nero( the only dvd burning software i use, and make sure its the newest version) at the wizard screen choose dvd and then dvd video. you should then see a screen with an AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder on it (Don't worry about the Audio_ts folder. Move all you files from the VIDEO_TS folder on your HD to the one in nero then burn. You should then a compatable DVD-Video disc. Also nero autochecks the files before burning.

If you want to have the highest success rate, take the ISO file and burn it to DVD-R with DVD-Decrypter; this method is virtually fool-proof. You should then have a functional DVD-Video on DVD-R. I've done used Ulead's DVD Workshop many times in the past, as this always has worked for me.
