I want to buy a new computer and will use it a lot for video editing and games. What sort of memory should I get? DDR is faster, but more expensive. I can buy "1 Gb SDRAM PC 133" even cheaper than "512M DDR-PC2700: 333mhz Samsung"

What is better: 512 Mb of DDR-2700 OR 1 Gb of PC-133?

    Thanks

I found this doing a Yahoo search of "DDR vs SDRAM"

Basically, there is not a whole huge difference by using DDR now. Depending on your application, and how much memory it needs to access quickly, you can expect a 5-20% improvement. As for games (Q3 at least) the DDR RAM doesn't make a big difference, as the video card's bandwidth limitations tend to strike first.
This was taken from the following link..
    http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Q_20178467.html

I have two systems..both AMD XP2100+..one with 512MB DDR and one with 512MB PC-133 SDRAM..
In everyday usage I can honestly say I can't visually see any difference between the two.

    Regards..

DDR probably will last you through more upgrades. It also depends on what kind of CPU you have (a faster CPU benefits more, and the P4 was designed for fast memory) and on what you're doing with the computer (you probably can't read e-mail faster than the computer can display it).

If you want a bunch of graphs and numbers check on Tom's hardware, they've had a number of comparisons of different types of memory including benchmarks with DivX and MP3 encoding. But to find comparisons that have PC133 you'll probably have to go back to 2001's articles. Newer articles won't have PC133, older ones won't have today's fast processors, so you'll have to do some reading if you're looking at a new CPU with old memory.
