  1. I've been messing around creating XVCDs using TMPGENC. I noticed recently that some of them have a slight shudder when encoding using bitrates above 1400.

Has anyone else experienced this problem. I've got a good player Pioneer 343 - I was led to believe that you could crank the bitrate all the way up to 2600 and still be able to play the XVCD on this player?

My other hunch is that this problem is being created when I use VCD cutter to cut the finished mpegs. Not really sure about this.

The bottom line is should I be bothering creating XVCDs at all and just stick to the standard 1150 VCD standard because there doesn't appear to be a huge difference in quality.

  2. If you believe your DVD player supports higher bit rate, then no reason to stick to standard VCD. My Sony 660 plays VCD at 2600 kbps flawlessly (really superb quality when encoded from TMPGEnc).

Your VCDCutter could be a problem but you can verify that. Just encode 10 - 15 min clip and burn VCD (so no VCDCutting) and test. Otherwise, you may have to fiddle around with settings.

  3. cut with TMPGEnc, it does a better job than anything I've tried. If you have a Pioneer than make XVCD's. Use force film in DVD2AVI and your movies will play smoother. Use high quality slow for motion search
