  1. I have some Princo DVD-RW's that worked well with 1.0d firmware, but do not work with 1.0f firmware. When burning with nero, nero says illegal media error.

Any idea's on how to fix this problem?
Does anyone know if this happens with 1.0e firmware?

  2. I believe 1.0e was up only couple of hours so there might be somthing wrong with that version.

  4. Had my own problems with Princo DVD-RW and DRU-500A 1.0f and Nero 5.5.9.17. See my posts regarding this. Perhaps this Nero 5.5.10.x will fix my problems.

  5. I'm interested in this too. Maybe 1.0e is 1.0f but without the media blacklist? Without someone who knows his/her way around dvd-burner firmware there's no way to tell. Or maybe someone can create an 1.0f with an empty blacklist. The Pioneer A05 owners are complaining about the same thing, insinuating that certain DVD-R manufacturers aren't paying license fees and are therefore disabled. Of course if this is true it will never be admitted. Instead you'll get stories about "media quality below the official standards" etc.

But if a DVD-R burns fine with 1.0d, and can be read back perfectly in your standalone player, the quality is good or at least good enough. If the same batch of DVD-R won't burn at all after an upgrade to 1.0f (and you can prove it's blacklisted) maybe you've got a case. I still wonder where c't magazine got their information about Sony disabling certain "TDK" manufacturer IDs in a firmware update.

  6. I have just received another different batch of Princo DVD-RW's. These disc look exactly the same as the bad disks, but these discs work well with 1.0f.

If anyone is interested I now have a copy of 1.0e Firmware. I am a bit nervous to install 1.0e but I am willing to make copies for someone to try if they want.

  7. I posted success with the new batch of Princo's to early.

These disks burnt OK, but would not play back in the sony burner. They did play back OK in my other DVD player though.

This is very strange, because my old Princo disks would not even start recording with nero. Nero just reported Illegal Media error.

  8. Can you post the DVD media information (use the utility under DVDR Media to the left) to see what this media is?

  10. Here is the Princo DVD-RW media information. These disks come up with an illegal media errror with nero, and will not record. They will also not record with other programs.
