  1. I have a Sony DRU-500A DVD-R/RW+R/RW writer.

I am looking for a good cheap source of blanks. I prefer DVD-R for compatibility reasons, but would also consider DVD+R.

    - What online sources seem to offer the best combination of price, reasonable quality, and reliable service?

    - What brands are reasonable and which should be avoided?

I am hesitant to just go by price alone on the Internet to avoid poor quality or bad vendors.

It would help if I had an idea where are you living, but in case you're in EU area I'd recommend http://www.digitalpromo.co.uk

Tested personnally and found the following working with DRU 500A: Datasafe Classic DVD-R, Datasafe Yellow DVD-R, Datasafe Ritek DVD-R, Datasafe DVD-RW, Traxdata DVD-R

    Not working with DRU 500A : Bulkpaq 1x DVD-R, WhiteLabel 1x DVD-R, Datasafe DVD+R

    http://www.supermediastore.com/

They seem to have some pretty good deals there...note, I dont have a DVD burner yet so Im not sure what kind of success others have had with those DVD-Rs...just check some of the Media Compatibility threads on this forum...

For DVD media try these two on-line stores.

    http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/index.html

    http://store.yahoo.com/cdrdvdrmedia/index.html

I've dealt with All Media for CDRs and labels and had good results - especially with the extended 90 & 99 minute CDRs. My friend has purchased blank DVDs with cases from them and had no complaints so far as to media quality. Happy shopping!

If you want the lowest price for reasonably good DVD+R media, buy Ritek 2.4x (while there are only 2.4x for now.) If you want reasonable prices for top quality DVD+R media, buy Verbatim 2.4x that are available at Sams for $2.

Very much unlike the situation with DVD-R media, there is yet no DVD+R media that is very cheap and very poor in quality. So it's easier to choose. There's no 1x and no 4x. Only 2.4x for DVD+R and DVD+RW.
