  1. Hey all, a newbie q for you:

Just bought a Cendyne (Pioneer DVR105) DVD-R, and authored a couple of DVDs using existing MPG2 files I had. I used both the MyDVD bundled with the drive as well as Nero 55917. No problems at all with the burns, but won't load in my Toshiba SD2800. Just get constant loading message or 'check disk' error. I used the media included with the DVD-R (not labeled) as well as general use DVD-R 4.7G blanks I bought at OfficeMax. These burned DVDs do play on the PC using PowerDVD or WinDVD however.

The Toshiba SD2800 supports DVD-R as far as I know, and without any clear problems in the burn process I'm not sure how to troubleshoot where I'm at. Appreciae any pointers, Thx in advance.

  2. I'd like to know how you got MyDVD to burn to your blanks? I've got 5 mpeg2 files that I edited and rendered from Vegas Video. I put them on the style page in MyDVD, select save, make disc (DVD), then it goes into transcoding video for the first file, does it again a second time (faster), then says it's transcoding audio for the same file, and just sits there....no hard drive action - nothing. It's not locked up because I can cancel it at any time...just sits there! Any suggestions??

I have a Toshiba 3805, which is the 5-disk progressive scan version of the 2800, so I would think the laser in it would be the same. I am using generic media, I think the name is Primedisk, without problems. I'm burning mainly with DVD Workshop, but have also burned with Nero.

  4. Nolonemo, there are a number of places where things might go wrong.

You might try your DVD in a different DVD player. Different brands react differently.

I thought I remember seeing a reasonably sized image file that can be used to verify the burning process somewhere on this site. That could be used to determine if it is media problems with your player. Hopefully some one can point you to it or confirm that it is wishful thinking on my part.

There are also disk format and layout issues. DVD players are far pickier than the PC DVD software. So far, I have not gotten a disk authored with Nero to work with a Pioneer DVD player. Same disk played fine in a cheap GE unit. These days, I prefer using imgtool to create a disk image and then burn the image.

I used MyDVD to authored and burn a home movie, encoded at DVD-quality using TMPGEnc Plus. This movie was burned onto DVD-R (CompUSA media) using a Sony DRU-500a DVD+/-RW drive and plays very well in my Toshiba SD2800. I ordered a 50-pack of Accu DVD-R media, which I should get this week, and can't wait to see how well these work. I know this doesn't really help but the two things that are different between our approaches are the DVD drive and the DVD-R media.
