  1. I started off using TMPGEnc to convert my raw avi (720x480) to svcd 480x480 with the built in template. My very first conversion was succusful, the end result displayed in Windows Media Player at the proper res of 480x480, excited i burned it on a cd and it played perfect on my tv.

Upon this success, I continued to convert my remaining avi files. When I tested the second converted avi in Windows Media Player, it displayed @ 640x480 instead of 480x480! I right clicked and selected properties, and the detailed information reveals 640x480. I thought I just made an encoding mistake or forgot to load the correct template, so i re-encoded... and same bloody thing!!!

Now here's the part that throws my mind for a loop, i went back and played the very first clip i *succesfully* made just for fun, and for some bizarre reason it now displays at 640x480!!! I'm going insane because of this!

Thinking this was just a problem with TMPGEnc, I installed an older version and get the same results. So I grabbed the LSX Premiere Plugin for Adobe Premiere to see if TMPGEnc just didn't want to work on my system. And here's where history repeats itself: My first conversion worked like a charm, burned it and it played perfectly. Second conversion plays back @ 640x480 in WMP 6.4! So I playback my first succesfull clip made with LSX and instead of 480x480 like it did the first time, it now plays back at 640x480!!!!!!!

Can anybody shed some light on this for me??? Is there a way to get these clips back to 480x480 or do i have to re-encode them again (and even upon re-encoding they still pop up as 640x480)?? I am about ready to throw my vcr throw my vcr at my tv and slam my computer into my wall!

p.s. anybody recommend a good app to convert my raw avi to divx? Adobe Premiere makes choppy divx movies, Virtual dub won't open my avi files (captured in premiere), and i know of no others apps. I am a lost beginner

  2. 640x480 is the playback resolution.
The video's resoultion is still 480x480, but it will display it in 4:3 aspect ratio.
GoTo: WMP file properties (it may say 640x480), and GoTo advanced/video decoder. It will show you the "real" resolution...
