  1. hi...

i'm from israel and next week my friend is getting back from the states
and he can buy me a DVD writer but i need the model's name ...
so i looked at the list in the site ...

but i need a writer that can write 2 layer on ONE side (so it's 9.4GB)
i need this bcz i want to burn DVD movies ... but most of them are
bigger then 4.7Gb ... so i have the following questions:
    1. first of all , is it easy to burn a DVD movie (with the orignal graphics
and sound , no RIPs) ?
    2. is there a writer that can write 2 layers on one side ?
    3. if the anser to 2 is no, any one has an idea how to do it with the 4.7Gb

sorry if i'm not in the write section in some of the questions....

    10x for all your help...

  2. well there is no dual layered dvd burners avaible to the public. its easy to copy singled layered dvds. as for dual layered dvds you going to have to do some reading on encoding and authoring dvds. you can find that on this site just click on dvd rip..........

  3. first of all .. thanks for answering so fast .. .

but ... you are telling me that a movie that his VOB files are larger then
4.7Gb i have to Rip in order to burn him ...

bcz if so this is a problem ... bcz when you Rip a movie you lose the sound quality... the movie is not the same ...

do you have any other solutions ? or any one else ?
bcz why otherwise would you buy a DVD writer... you can burn the same
on a regular CD ... or am i wrong ?

  4. you are not going to lose sound quality. the sound will remain the same. you will need to encode the video but the loss is not noticeable. looks just as good as the orginal...........

  5. By ripping you don't loose quality only if you convert. You should be able to split DVD to 2 DVD-/+R very easy without re-encoding and loosing quality of the movie.

  6. Yes to get a 9.4GB DVD you will have to:

    a) reencode to lower bitrate to try to get onto 1 4.7GB DVDR
    b) cut out menus & extras and try to get to 4.7GB
    c) Use double sided media (not dual layer as that does not exist for DVDR)
    d) Burn to 2 DVDRs

    Good luck
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  7. WOW... thanks for all the help ...
    i realy mean it...

i have another qestion (to kitty)...
you are saying that i cabn split the long movie to 2 DVDs and
without any problem , like puting the first VOBs in the rsift DVD
and what left in the other ?
or you still have to convert the data ?

and another question(sorry about all the questions ):
what type of DVD writers do you recommend (i know there is
a list in the site , but i don't know how to choose a good one) ?

  8. I am not kitty, but I hope you don't mind if I answer...

Use spliting guides from here or www.doom9.org . Result will be, some VOB files on 1st and some on 2nd disk and some on both. It depends if you want to keep all the extra and menus or not. No conversion involved.

I own and I like Suny DRU-500A. Reason ? It can burn DVD -R or +R, so I have choice...

  9. thanks alot ...and i didn't mean that only kitty can answer me

so if you answered such a good answer i have another question
ehat is the diff between -R and +R , is it necessary ?

  10. Simple, not too much technical answer...

+R standard 2.4x burning speed (4x available), newer technology ( I know that there are some options that can be realy coll, but I didn't study them yet)

-R media cheaper, standard 1x burning speed (2x and 4x available)

For both... there are some DVD playres that night play only one of these formts (standalone or DVD-ROM), so it is good to have option.

This is my current point of view on +/- issue.
