  1. Hello. I have recently downloaded a SVCD from irc and the only problem is that my crappy toshiba dvd player only plays vcd's. I have tried to conver it to a toast ready mpeg in vcd gear, and although toast accepted it as a vcd and burnt it, my dvd player just sits there and says "playing" but dosent show anything. I have checked this file and it is actually valid and plays in vlc fine. Any way to convert this to a vcd compliant file? Any input is appreciated.

  2. At first you should create an image of your SVCD with Toast, then rename .toast to .bin. With vcdxrip of vcdtoolsX (versiontracker) you can extract the mpeg2 file(s) out of the image. QT6 with the mpeg2 decoder is able to export the mpeg2-file directly to VCD. It is also possible to do mpeg2 to mpeg1 conversion with mediapipe or ffmpegx. Of course, the mpeg1 file must be authored as VCD using ffmpegx or vcdtoolsX.

Maybe your DVD-Player can only read VCDs with constant bitrate. Try CBR on the mpeg2 to mpeg1-conversion.

The new Toshiba SD220e reads everything.

    Hope that helps.

have you actually succesfully converted a VCD file from a SVCD in quicktime? i've used the mpeg-2 decoder and exported to toast vcd and i ended up with a file that only had audio-- i just wanted to make sure you tested the method before advocating it. i havent done additional tests because once you go SVCD you never go back
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine

Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.
