Weeks ago, I got the same problem. Here is what I have done.

    1. Restart from your OSX Installation Disk
    2. From there you can change the User Passwords
    3. Enter a new password for the Root
    4. Should work
    5. Burn Baby, burn!

You didn't convert your DVD to VCD. You simply ripped the DVD to your hard drive. The reason you don't hear any audio is because Quicktime can't decode AC3 audio. You should use an app like ffmpegX or AfroPic to convert those files to a VCD.

Also I could never load up mpeg2enc with ffmpegx although i followed squeeds direction, teminal would not let me put in my admid pass.
When you are typing in your password in the terminal it will look as if nothing is being typed. When you are prompted, type in your PW and then hit return.

  4. I don't understand though, why can the apple DVD player play from a normal DVD, but not from the extracted DVD file?
Also, I tried teh file extracted from the DVD in vlc and it also wouldn't play the sound. vlc also can't play ac3 audio?
