  2. Heres the guides http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=109346.... I have been using also I hear DVD2DVDR is a good program. I am just about to try it. Also if you are willing to spend money DVDXCopy is out. It is an awesome program except the disclaimer it leaves on your dvd copy, but there is a tutorial out that tells how to get rid of that. Rencoding is really all up to. It depends on how big the original DVD is and what features you want to keep with your movie.

  3. DVDXCopy is a joke all it is a bunch of freeware tools packaged together. its amazing all the suckers out there who bought that garbage. plus with a little bit of searching you can get it for free. as far as programs you need are DVD2AVI, DVD Decrypter, IfoEdit, Nero - Burning Rom ,and TMPGEnc.

I don't particularily like the program myself but you don't know what you're talking about and are just plain wrong, it is not a bunch of bundled freeware, the old one was (DVD Copy Plus or whatever) but this one is not. As for getting it for free you are telling him to Warez or Pirate the program, the developers are not giving it away for free??

I use it for 1 specific situation where I want to make perfect copies of a big movie that ends up spanning 2 DVD-R and where I want my own custom menus. I let DVDXCopy rip to my HD, then I Smartrip out the .m2v and .ac3 files to use into Maestro, works quite well. I've tried about 3 other ways including IFOEdit and ripping selected chapters in DVD Decrypter but sometimes get audio sync problems yet DVDxCopy gives me good audio sync. All other times (95% of the time) I use DVD Decrypter, IFOEdit, ChapterExtractor, Smartruppier, Maestro ...etc.

  5. In this forum go to: DVD RIP. Then look for DVD 2 DVDR for Dummies (sorry about the title). It has all you need and it works!

  6. i have tried this program and seen how it works and it dose the samething as freeware tools can do. the dude who made ifoedit also is one of the people who helped make dvdxcopy. how much is ifoedit? its free. well this program has some good points. if you are to lazy to learn how to copy dvds. then this is the program for you and if you like throwing money down the craper this is the program for you. well if you don't know how to read then this is a pretty good program for you. this is how i look at it i am not going to pay for something if i can get for free. so i guess you don't download mp3s? because its the same thing.

No it doesn't! It does not cover a 2 Layer DVD9>4.3GB to DVD-R without re-encoding (loss of quality). If you use this guide on a DVD like Abyss which is some 170min long you will have to re-encode with a very low bitrate ~ 3100 and will drop the quality considerably as mentioned above.

If you want to back up a movie like this you need to parse two DVD-R's to maintain perfect quality! There are 2 guides for this I've tried but as I mentioned above I've ran into audio sync issues with both:

    http://www.fukrulez.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=12&page=1

    http://www.doom9.org/ (Guides -> Split a DVD to 2 DVD-Rs)

It has all you need and it works![/
Also, the guide u recommended would be a horrible choice for a DVD5 disc or a DVD9 that could be ripped to less than 4.3GB. It would take 3 times as long and drop the quality.

I'm not disputing the point that there are free programs out there that can do the same thing. I am saying that it is not bundled freeware programs. I know that the same guy that did IFOEdit worked on DVDxCopy, that doesn't make it free!

As for not paying for what u can get free, you are blantetly advocating pirating on this forum. I can get every program on the market for free if I wanted and usually a week before it's release yet I choose to PAY for the programs I use. If you can't understand this than I don't even know where to start in discussing this...

I still consider myself an amateur at this but am quite surprised when people will jump on a topic and hand a newbie bad advice

  8. This guy was asking for advice and you guys turned this into a flame war !!! That aint kewl! In forums you are supposed to try to help someone not confuse them. The argueing you guys just did confused me.....hehe. Chill out and just try to help, dont argue over what program is better. If it works than it is a good program in my opinion

  9. I really don't want to re-encode movies and would prefer the split option. I had a few attempts at splitting with freeware to no success. I like the ease of Copy, just for the fact I don't have to spend precious hours figuring out VOBs and IFOs. I'd much rather WATCH DVDs then spend time figuring out how to copy them. I guess that either makes me lazy or dumb (according to several people posting on all-in-one programs).

This is off the original topic, but it burns me that people keep ripping on everybody who uses DVDXCopy.

  10. Right on. We can all banter all we want, but in a few months there will likely be a choice of software that will offer a choice of one button copying by splitting, re-encoding, whatever. Why? Because this is a killer app that has piqued everybody's interest, and at the current cost of media & burners (which will only drop further) the market will soon be huge. Then all you tweakers will be like the guys still making web pages with notepad - interesting, but overall not very relevant.

    Hi,

I'd just like to add my 2 cents. I have an incredibly easy method for backing up DVD9s. I can't beleive more people don't use it:

    1) Rip the disc in file mode- rip ALL files to a "VIDEO_TS" folder on your hard drive

    2) Find the VTS group with the main movie. Make sure that you keep the VTS_0 file (it contains the main menu) on each disc.

    3) Then, split the remaing video files between two discs. Personally, I prefer to keep most of the movie on the first disc and the last part of the movie and special features on the second disc.

    4) Burn the first VIDEO_TS folder to DVD in UDF format and then again with disc 2

Sure you have to change the disc during the movie, but you now have 2 discs that work exactly like the original. Original menus, special features and DVD quality: no re-encoding.

Obviously, some of the multi angle films like Planet of the Apes, T2, etc have to be ripped a little bit differently, and TV series seem to be a nightmare, but this guide will work for 99% of the dvds out there.

  13. ghosters right on the money there, iam sorry to say if you can't read some of these guides and post and figure it out your lazy and dumb.
    TO ANSWER THE ABOVE QUESTION
    EASY AND SIMPLE SOFTWARE(FREEEEEEE)
    dvddecrypter
    ifoedit

and what ever burn software ya fancy
    nero
    recordnow max

there are 3 very easy methods to have for dvd-dvd+-R/RW without losing quality
1)1:1 copy/image, straight burning of the files, so easy.. bobo my monkey has this down
2)strip the movie and burn it simple up 2 30mins more after ripping
3)split to 2 dvdr with all the menus extras and quality
same time to do it all pluss you have complete control as well as basic understanding of the dvd layout and file hierchy, NO re-encoding, and NO supporting people that profit of others work/hobby
PM me if you want to know any steps or tips for either 3 of these methods

What a defensive little kid you are.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

Your just throwing fuel to the fire, why stick your nose where it doesn't belong.
As Willie said this place if for all to unite and help one anyone. Both Ghoster and rhuala have made some valid points, but hopefully we dont want it to get out of hand... you my friend are doing no one any favours.

If you can't contribute something worthy shut your gob for shit sake!!!
