  1. I have a 1800XP, 256DDR, 60gig, Gigabyte MB, and ATI Radeon 7500 AIW. Ulead videostudio cam with it (can't get it to pull video), the ATI software isn't very good, virtualdub wont work without a wrapper and i heard it don't work well (with the wrapper). Any suggestions of software (perfer free) that i can use for capturing and editing? Anyone had luck with the unlead videostudio? Newbie needing help.

  2. I use Ulead VideoStudio 6 with my Radeon at home and my 7500 at work. Best capture, editing, encoding software available for non professionals. I've tried them all-VideoWave 5, Studio Version 8, ArcSoft Showbiz, Sonic Foundry VideoFactory, etc. Version 6 is much easier and better-the upgrade is under $50. Also, add DVD MovieFactory for DVD authoring ($25).

  3. The trouble i'm having with it, is capturing. I'm using a VCR with "composite". Any special settings or anything I should know about?

I read this post because I'm interested in getting opinions about VideoStudio 6.xxx and comparing it to ATI AIW Radeon Capture. I have successfully captured in VS 5.0 and in ATI mmc 7.7.1. I just finished a burn of 1.5+ GB of SVCD 480x480 on to two CD-R's. I've updated to VideoStudio 6.xxx and in reading their news, they claim their new encoder is 46% faster than before. My question is,... has anyone compared the mpeg quality of VS 6.xx to ATI's MMC 7.7.x. Since both are real time and work with <1% dropped frames I could use either one.
ATI is easier to operate,... but VideoStudio has many more functions and features. I will have to use VideoStudio for editing as my time limit on TMPGen is running out. I don't want to buy anymore software,... if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance,... sorry for jumping into the middle of this post.

I'm also using UVS6 sometimes for capturing and mostly for editing and authoring using the DVD plug-in. The plug-in works great in creating simple menu and intro. While it maybe true that the latest patch improves the quality of the encodes and perhaps faster encoding. Still I wont use it transcode to VCD, SVCD/CVD. It is still better to use other encoder like TMPGenc, CCE, Ligos etc. I dont mind tweaking the settings in TMPGenc, once you get use to it, it will yield much better result.
