Hello, I just bought a JVC GR-DVL520U MiniDV Camcorder, and I am wonder how I can make DVD's/VCD's with it. I am wondering if I need some hardware, so the AV can go into the computer, of if i can somehow use the USB to access it. If someone could enlighten me on the steps I could take to do this, Iit would be much appreciated, and i would be very greatful. Thank you for your time, and look forward to a reply!!

  2. You need a firewire card and cable. You can use Windows Movie Maker to capture. You can encode to mpeg-2 with TMPGEnc. VCD can be authored with NERO. DVD can be authored with the programs that come with your DVD burner. I suggest the Sony DRU-500A as a DVD burner.

P.S. It might be too late but getting a digital camcorder with a passthrough feature (most Sony digital camcorders except the TRV-140; some Canon models) could have been a good idea since you could have used your camcorder as a capture card for VHS and other analog stuff.
