Hi all,
I've been playing with this video thing for a while now and still getting deeper and techy, but of course more exciting!
Been using PowerDirector w/ noise filter & deinterlace function enabled for MPEG2 caps then to TMPGenc for VCD/SVCD/CVD. Result is good and video is very stable (no "jello effect") but somehow video is not so crisp. No idea which value is best on TMPGenc, Sharpen Edge feature. I commonly use 32 vert. 32 hor. Any idea pls...
Anyhow, I shifted to VirtualVCR for capping in AVI then directly to TMPGenc for encoding and the result is indeed sharper! However, encoded video has the "jello" effect, not so obvious anyway, but I want to get rid of it if possible. So I tried the following procedure:
VirtualVCR ---> VitualDub (for processing) ---> (Framesrving) TMPGenc
Now my concern is how to use the filters properly in Vdub. I learned from this forum that Vdub is very powerful when it comes to processing but I have very little idea which is best to use. Will appreciate your help guys...
edit: I was thinking that deinterlacing might help reduce if not to get rid of the "jello" effect.

hello..... anybody pls. (just want to make my day easier
)
i guess i hve to do my homework.... thanks anyway -
i use vdub to capture and have noise reduction off. I used to have it on until i noticed weird blocks in the skin tones (and seeing as i record cooking shows, they show a lot of hand closeups..it gets annoying). Anyway, to combat background TV noise I find that deinterlace works well. Deinterlace, as far as i know, does jack all to the quality of your final picture if your playing it on a regular tv, but for reducing noise it helps. Good luck

for some reason i get the opposite effect. when i deinterlace i get ghosts and such but if i leave the movie interlaced i get a crisp clean picture on the tv.
i cap from dtv alot and dont use any filters at all. i cap to 352x480 encode with cce 3 pass unchecking the first field box with my desired bitrates and the outcome is pretty awsome. if im encoding svcd anime i use the toonfix filter and frameserve to cce.
for vhs source i cap at 352x480 load to vdub use vhsfix-2d cleaner optimised <- settings according to movie and frameserv to encoder. i try not to use any filters at all. huh all sources dont allow that unfortunately
