  1. I’ve been backing up my DVDs to VCD for some time now. Just use two bits of software. DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc. I’ve tried playing around with the Aspect Ratio settings in TMPGEnc so that the play back on VCD is the same size window as the original DVD.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

  2. Under settings-advanced-video arrange method, you need to select full screen (keep aspect ratio)

I had this problem when copying anamorphic DVDs. I was clipping off the black bands to maximize the bit rate that went into the movie (I'm told this doesn't help much). When you do this you change the aspect ratio of the movie. Don't clip the frames and leave the aspect ratio 4:3 in the Video tab (if you are watching on a regular TV) and under the advanced tab, set the Source ratio as 16:9 and the aspect ratio to 'full screen (keep aspect ratio)' like the previous poster suggested.
