  1. Kids = Scratched cd's that skip.

Can anyone recommend a product that has worked for them that has fixed a scratched cd from skipping?

Hopefully then I can make a good backup of the cd.

    TIA

  2. I have successfully used a disc polishing device called SkipDoctor. There are other similiar devices on the market. About £20.00 from your local computer store.

  3. I've actually taken regular old toothpaste... not the gel kind.. the regular paste, and with a lint free cloth polished the scratches out.. its more of a pain than one of those little machines but it sure is cheap... unless you have to go buy alot of toothpaste lol Seems to work pretty good too.

I heard of the technique from the screensavers on tech tv so i have to give credit to them for it.... thought i would do that before anyone else out there watches the show thinks i'm ripping patrick norton off. lol

  4. toothpaste. hhmm. Maybe I'll try that. I hope the toothpaste doesn't "spin" off the DVD, and goo up on the inside of my burner.

Sounds a little too desperate, like the people who put urine on their face to cure their acne, but hey I'll try everything once.

  5. Brasso! the brass cleaning stuff..works a charm something about the abrasive particles i used to use it on damaged ps2 discs. Just apply it let it dry then clean it off with a dry/clean soft cloth.

  6. I guess I left a step out... sorry for the confusion...
You don't want to leave any of the toothpaste on it.... wipe it off of course...
a good way to do it would be to run it under hot water... hot enough that it will evaporate off the disk, like when your rinsing off dishes after you have washed them... then tamp them dry with a towel...
then you don't have to worry about the toothpaste and getting it in your drive.

and like the last post.. yeah it has some abrasion to it and it isn't very harsh.

hope that helps clear up what i said
I wouldn't want to get any toothpaste into any of my drives either, but hey it would be minty fresh afterwards
