I am going to be buying myself a dvd player around next week. I have tons of vcds and svcds that i watch on my computer but i am ready to buy a dvd player to watch them on. I looked for a player that was cheap, vcd, svcd compatible. I noticed Cyberhome and Apex, im choosing Cyberhome because the player just looks a whole lot better to me, But I am stuck between which one i should choose. CH-DVD 500 was having problems playing SVCDs but a firmware upgrade "supposely" fixed that, but CH-DVD500 is Progessive-Scan and CH-DVD402 seems more reliable. I am stuck between which i shall get but i know i am getting a Cyberhome... Please Help! If anybody have or has had one of these dvd players please tell me what u think.

I bought the CH-DVD 500 a few weeks back, and have been quite happy with it. It has played every SVCD I have put in it, and I haven't even done the firmware upgrade yet.
Sometimes, the video quality seems a little off to me, but it could be my TV and not the player. Only happens with rented DVDs and not really consistently. I'm not using the progressive scan, so can't comment on that.
All in all, for $80, this seems like a good deal to me. I really like the folder navigation for MP3s and JPEGs. Not too familiar with the 402, but I believe the MP3/JPEG navigation isn't as good.
Good luck with your search
