I have a Cyberhome 400 DVD player that is no longer working as it should. It accepts the CD or DVD but then only plays around 7 tracks before stopping (although the CD is still "spinning" in the machine, as you can hear the noise). I have tried cleaning it, but no help...so I am wondering if someone knows what to do to repair this? Should I just head for the shops to replace it?

    Many thanks in advance

Looks like the lazer is not tracking - common on cheaper players like Apex, Cyberhome, etc. It will require surgery, and the cost would likely exceed the price of a replacement.

Cheap DVD players aren't designed to last. The manufacturers use cheap components to keep costs down and those components don't last. Also, the thin design that the market demands prevents them from using cooling fans in the units, so they are more prone to heat damage. Manufacturers love this because you have to replace DVD players more often than customers like. It's time to just buy a new one if you attempted to clean it and it didn't help.

If you are really desperate, it might be possible to replace the drive itself in the player, but you'll need to do a web search to see if anyone has a guide on how to do that. I've seen a few guides in the past on doing this on Apex models. It might also be possible on Cyberhome.
