I have several SVCD's I've generated with TMPGEnc. They all play fine on the computer, and even after burning to a SVCD playing with PowerDVD.
However on my Apex 660 it's very jerky motion. Slow motion is fine, but panning or a character running across the screen looks like when you paused old VHS tapes. It almost seems to be displaying two frames at the same time.
Anybody have good success with SVCD on these drives? What are your settings? Primarily with TMPG, since I don't have CCE.
I'm capturing with virtualdub (huffyvu codec) from DirecTV and then frameserving to TMPG
Should I deinterlace the source? TMPG defaults to bottom field first, should I switch to top field first?

Play with all the setting you've mentioned and see with one is the best.
I've only ripped SVCD from DVD so I don't know about capture from VHS or Direct TV. My SVCD play just fine on my APEX 660. I always ripped SVCD at 23.976 fps with 3:2 pulldown applied.
