Did somebody already test Steinberg's DVD Movie Copy (www.steinberg.net)? It copies the main movie with one soundtrack to another DVD (if it doesn't fit, it will transcode)... or at least it says so...

SiCN - the real one!
"Dudes, we gotta think here... What would Brian Boitano do?" -
From what I've read about it, this is the product that would get rid of most of our headaches when backing up our DVDs.
One question---Is this available to be purchased in the U.S? -
I have heard the encoding time is very long but I have not tried it myself.
I do not know about the quality of the end product. -
I actually did try it and it did not work... kept giving me This disk is copy protected errors.
It could have been user error since I'm new to dvd ripping.. I looke dthrough all the help files and tried online nada. Ripped it with smart and tried from the files same error.

i tried it from a non copy protected dvd and after 8 hours of not much happening i un-installed it ..
maybe i was doing something wrong also ..
reminds me of products by companies like in-sync who release a new product (Blade) which is a great little Dv editor and which can encode directly to mpeg2 using the tmpgenc engine .. but hard coded into its encoding is the fact the all GOP's are 20 frames .. hello !! -
It didn't work for me either. I got the "this disk is copy protected".
Does it do re-encoding or just split a dvd9 to two dvd5s? -
I am very wary of companies that produce this kind of software, and dont think that a company like this would want to burn its fingers with any law suits that will come from the film companys I may be wrong but I only see good working programes comming from the likes of the software developers we find here and at doom9

What I've heard this copy protected error comes if you have loads of other codecs installed that come with the usual ripping tools... But that's just what I've heard.

just to let ya all know
ive tried everything with this software and it
WONT back up anything with copy protection in it
had no probs on dvds not copy protected
even tried to rip and strip the macro out but still wont copy -
Just took a look at the program --- it looks well-polished and professional. I'm in the process of ripping Enigma on it right now, and I'll let you know how it comes out...

It looks like the DVD drive is going to be accessed throughout the whole 9hr conversion to SVCD (that is what I'm testing it for) --- don't know if I like that; I've read that the life of the drive gets shortened that way. Don't know if the same behavior follows for DVD to DVDR.

RE steinbergs DVD movie copy, i dose take its time and it dose get the job done ! as long as it will copy the disk all my hand made DVD`s fo my home movies copy without a prob but film DVD`s that i try to back up are being rejected for copy right stuff. Help??? what do i have to do to make this work ????
Cheers Villa -
Would it pay to rip the complete dvd first then copy that?
-
going to break out SmartRipper and give it a try right now...
-
I beleive if you install the steinberg codec after installing DVD Movie Copy - you will no longer get the copy protection error. Worked for me.
-
I ripped the ifo and vob files to my hard drive with SmartRipper. Unfortunately, I can't make Steinberg acknowledge that these files even exist now!!
Any suggestions? Anyone seen the same behavior? -

Ripping to hard drive makes no difference even if you tell your ripper to remove macro / CCE / Region Encoding.
Even going into IFOEdit and removing the RCE coding in there after ripping (from all IFO's) makes no difference.
Codec Installed .. Still No Difference.
Looks like this is only good for backing up movies which are not marked as copyrighted and to be honest anything that is not copyrighted is more than likely to be 4.3gig or under anyway so you might as well use ISO mode in DVD decryptor
As for using it for SVCD's .. DVD2SVCD is going to make a better job it it, much faster and give you better control over the finished product (if your wiling to learn about the settings) -
just a little hint
if you rip as an iso using decrypter, and make a temporary drive using proggy alcohol 120%, you can then rip the files to the temp drive, then let steinberg find the iso on the temp drive, you get no copyright error

hmmmm, good idea. This way will also cut down on the dvd drive being read for the entire encoding process.
Will try it later when i get home. -
yea, I've decided after some experimentation that DVD2SVCD is the ticket for me --- it gives me perfect copies. Don't really know why I tried Steinberg --- I guess I'm just a fool for something new
...now about that Nerovision Express... -
To say that this prog SUX is an insult to things that do !!!!!
but thanks all who took the time to help Villa

My advice is - don't touch this software with a bargepole!! I have purchased it and it will not work for me. I either get a copyright error or a "CoInitialize has not been called" error???? Loooking at the Steinberg forum it would seem that this software works for some people but there are a lot of very annoyed people that cannot get it to work - myself included. As for Steinberg support - it's virtually non-existent! I will stick to the freebie software like DVD2SVCD etc. At least they work!
-
ok - seems that a few ppl are having problems with this s/w, I'll give it a full trial over the next few days & post my results here.... expect a report by the weekend
Will get to grips with dvd2dvr after this one -
AS I SAID FOLKS
!! THIS PROG SUCKS HARDER THAN AN UGLY BIRD TRYING TO IMPRESS U!! -
OK! I think I'm getting somewhere with this 'copy protection' thing!!
The first time I installed it ... I got the same problem...
I uninstalled it...
Ran the setup program again and went into custom install... and then clicked on the 'change' button under DVD Movie Copy...
I then deselected the codec checkbox.
Install as normal from then on.
Once the install process is over... install the Steinberg Codec separately.
Bob should be your uncle now.... 8)
I am currently copying StarWars Episode II and whereas it gave me a copy protection error first install... it seems to be working now... Will let you know when the entire process is finished!
Please let me know if this worked for you too!
