    Well I am Heathen.....

I really hate the letterboxing in DVDs and I am not planning to buy a widescreen TV for a few years yet so I would like to convert my 16:9 to 4:3. I know how to do this with TMPGE but not with DVD2SVCD....is it possible? (probably...but i dunno how thats why i am asking )...I tryed to set 4:3 on the conversion TAB...all it is was stetch the picture...not cut off the sides (he he i know some people wih cringe...)

Tryed Doom forum but...waiting for registration email so I can't talk there yet

    Can someone help me here?

I must admit I just used DVD2SVCD for the first time...and even at low bit rates the quality is stunning....way better than what I have been able to get out of TMPGE...mind u I am using 4 pass VBR

  2. All i ever do is edit the avisynth script and remove the "add borders" section. this makes the tv screen have more of the movie without streching the movie. the screen does have black bars but only about an inch compared to the widescreen version.

  3. Another interesting way of dealing with this is to get the Apex AD-3201 DVD player. It has two levels of zoom that will take a 4:3 letterboxed and zoom it by cropping the sides, for those people who really hate letterboxing..

Hi Vidguy, yer my dvd has a zoom function but it looks really icky...

I will try what sunmiztres sugested tho.....it would be really useful if someone who knew what they were doing could provide the scripts......for 16:9 to 4:3 and the otherone...anamorphic to 4:3.....actually I tend only to want to convert kids flics to full screen....but a interim step for my type of movie would be good.....

I am starting to grasp how to do the resizing scripts in avisynth....i am not sure if i have to "crop" the sides and letter box off the dvd video then resize to 480*576 to get a correct 4:3 aspect.....kinda PAN and scan without the PAN...just sit it in the middle....i do not have enuff time to learn all this stuff...my four young kids are biting me all the time...hehe...to my mind if i just resize the whole thing to 480*576 I will still have black bars at the top and bottom cuz the black bars are part of the picture...the 720*576 DVD image....so i need to "cut" the 4:3 image out of the dvd image then resize to 480*576?? does this sound right?

Still think CCE is a fantastic encoder...took me ages to find the fix for it tho....winx

sunmiz, tryed what you sugested.....and it does expand the picture...but it puts it right at the top of the TV frame...(.....will have to look into avisyth scrips today to see if there is a centre command..and i think that will do the trick enuff for me....
