  1. Hi all,

I'm new today and I have a problem. I've got a VCD which I want to convert to mpg or mpeg or avi.

Is this possible and if so, how can I do that?

    Thank you for any information

  2. you need to find a DAT file on your VCD... (witch is in fact the video file). Now, there are 2 things you can do with that file. you can rename it to MPG or you can DLL some DAT to MPG converter(look under TOOLS of this site)

You can just copy the .DAT files from the MPEGAV folder of the CD, but Windows will copy some extra overhead that is not actually part of the MPEG data.

To avoid this, use a tool like Isobuster http://www.isobuster.com and use its "Extract but filter only M2F2 Mpg frames" option (read the documentation that comes with it for a more thorough explanation) this will leave you with just the MPEG data.

Just a little hint, track 1 of a VCD is not video data so dont bother copying it.

  4. Use a program called VCDGear.

You can download it under the TOOLS section here on vcdhelp.com

    is freeware

  5. I'll second the VCDgear recommendation. I used that program to do exactly what you want to do. My eventual goal was to make a new VCD with chapter indexes using the same mpg file.
