I have copied DVD-R to DVD-R on PC platforms, and I also have an iMac which can sometimes read DVD-R.

The key is being able to copy the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories off the original DVD. You can then simply re-burn the two directories and their contents to a DVD-R. If you have your two Macs networked and one can read the DVD+R, you can copy the files to your iBook and burn it.

  3. i just looked at the DVD and the audio_ts folder is just empty, so i dunno whats up there, the video one is about 7.8 GB. This was on a david gray dvd, just for example.

The AUDIO_TS folder will be empty (unless it's a DVD-Audio disc). I copy the empty one to my DVD-Rs along with the VIDEO_TS folder, though I've left it out and the disc still played fine. I think the standard says both folders must be there.

If your Video_TS folder has 7.4GB of data, this must be a two-layer commercial DVD disc (DVD+R and DVD-R can only hold 4.7GB of data). You'd have to rip it and re-encode it at a lower bitrate. I've never really done that. There are many threads dealing with that situation. If you just have 2 DVD+Rs coming to you, then you just need to copy them to 2 DVD-Rs.

As far as I know the Apple Superdrive cannot read DVD+R discs.
