my own experience, windvd is better.. I always have compatiblity issue with powerdvd on win xp...then again it might be just me....
just my 2 cents -
I have both, and I prefer PowerDVD.
Now, both have advantages and disadvantages; They are even pretty much the same, so to say, i.e. look very SIMILAR.
WinDVD's biggest advantage is that some controls (audio effects/picture color+bright+contr, etc) can be displayed in a navigation pad, while in PowerDVD, you have to go to the preferences screen to change i.e. stereo to TruSorroundXT.
Both programs play DVDs, and VCDs and SVCDs well.
On the other hand, and that's why I prefer it, PowerDVD is simply faster. It rarel;y "jumps". It doesn't freeze machine like WinDVD does. Ofcourse, depends on your CPU, but on a slower system (like mine), PowerDVD is much less resource-hungry than WinDVD.
Just my 2 dinars worth...

Good summary.
I have both, and only have very slight preference for one of them.
If you have to pick any one, you don't missed anything significant.
