Does anyone know if there's some new DRM technology on the Iron Man DVD?

I've got the regular DVD (not the blu ray one, I've read it's got issues too) and none of my software players detect a disc in the drive. The drive is fine - all my other titles play - Iron Man disc is fine - it plays on another PC.

But I when I load this into my main PC, there's a lot of activity at first and then as I said, my players don't see the disc. The only thing I can think of is that I have tons of utilities on this PC: DVDFab, DVD Decrypter... and I wonder if there's some DRM check getting in my way.

All I want to do is view the thing. This PC is hooked up to the best display I own.

Anyone have any ideas what could be going on here?

First point of call is check for firmware update from manufacturer for the drive with issue ... second is replace current drive.

That does sound like a good place to start. I'll do that in a couple of days when I get back home. The drive is a Sony DRU-500 that's received really light use over the years. I hope I don't have to pitch it.

    Thanks again.

There doesn't appear to be any special encryption used on the standard DVD. So as pointed out above, it is likely a hardware issue, especially if the disc isn't even recognized.

Reboot your computer. Hold down a shift key when inserting the disc. Do your players see it now? Some discs contain AutoRun software that disables the drive.

Updated the firmware, and tried defeating autoplay by holding down shift. Neither made the DVD visible to the drive. Just for grins, I tried a couple other DVDs from my collection and got mixed results. It reliably read some, and reliably refused to mount one other besides Iron Man.

I know this sounds like hardware, but somehow I get a feeling I can't explain that it's not the case.

I'm going to look at replacing the drive anyway though - maybe it's time for me to move up to blu ray.
