    Hi all
Basically what I want to know how to do is backup a DVD9 to 2 DVD-R's

but I want the whole movie on the 1st DVD and Extras on the 2nd while also having the menus etc on both, so basically the 1st DVD is missing Extra VOB's and 2nd DVD is missing Movie VOB's

Its sounds the same as splitting the movie to 2 DVD's but I want the whole movie on one DVD not split

I've read that many different guides, searched forums and cant find one that explains how to do this

    Cheers

  2. well in order to get a dvd9 on one dvd you will have to rencode the movie. have many guides for doing that. as far as the extras they will prob fit on the other dvd with out encoding just have to find the vob ifo files etc.

the movie (Monster's Inc) is less than 4.33Gb when I strip all extra audio and subs, so I dont need to rencode as it's only about 3.5Gb leaving plenty of room for menus

I want to know how to strip out all but MOVIE & AUDIO track while retaining menus for 1st DVD. So basically I can use scene selection option in menu

and strip MOVIE leaving extras while still retaining menus for 2nd DVD so I can see all extras using menu

I havent found many informative guides to do this, most just tell u how to strip and burn movie, no mention of retaining original menu

    Cheers

    thanks for that link Bud
    Cheers for the help

that guide tells me how to split a movie which is what I dont want to do. I have done it no problem in the past. I will keep a copy of that guide for future use tho as its informative

What I want to do is to end up with 2 DVD's with the following contents

    1st DVD contents :
    Intros
Menus with limited extras (smaller ones just to fill disc)
    Main Movie title

    2nd DVD contents :
    Intros
    Menus will full extras
Basically all but Main movie title (reverse of ripping Main Movie)

Are there any good long winded informative guides to do this?

I read another post in this forum mentioning that the guy had created a blank mpeg, then remuxed it in place of the extras he didnt want

So I decided to give it a go and I done it also

not as hard as what I thought either, just complicated by the different guides out there to get the same thing. Some long winded and complicated, some not informative enough

from reading that guys post, I simply just used Vob extras and clicked remux file and chose the blank 1 sec video file to replace video and stripped the audio resulting in reducing VOB's to 6MB-10MB from 100MB+

done it with only a few of the extras VOB's and created a file just small enough to fit onto DVD and only sacrificing the trivial extras for that specific DVD

    ie. trailers, music video etc

Obviously this will only work for films short in length and not 2hr movies

I only wished that there was a guide to tell you how to do this instead of the 20 plus I have read and tried to piece together

I guess its just trial and error and I'm learning fast the hard way, but I know in time I will do this eyes closed and will end up being the one offering advice
