  1. im new to all this ,i have a digital camcorder and now i want a dvd burner ive made vcds and the quality sucks whats the best burner out there i can get and play the dvds on my regular dvd player,i was lookin at the new sony and it sounds like you have to go through alot of stuff before burnin with the updates and all please give me some info thanks

  2. Best is very subjective. If you want to burn to - and + media then the sony is the way to go. For me, I was happy to just burn to - media so I went for the pioneer a04 because of its track record and the fact that it was well established in the market place. I didn't go for the sony for 3 reasons.

    1 Wasn't bothered about + media
    2 More expensive than the pioneer
    3 Seemed from the reports on this forum that it could be more problematic than the pioneer.

  4. I would go for the Sony DRU-500a. The firmware upgrade will probably have been made when you buy it (if not, it's easy to make). I own an HP 200i (it burns +R and +RW) and I am very happy with it. At the time, dual format burners didn't exist (and I couldn't be bothered with the "-").
