  1. Ok,

I have been lurking for awhile and I'm starting to do my own DVD's and VCD's. I've learned alot and most of it is due to reading on this board. So, THANKS to everyone for the posts.

Now that I'm starting to do my own stuff, I have a question.... I'll try and give as much info as I can.

I have VHS tapes that are copies from PAL to NTSC, so they are poor quality to start, plus they are 6hr tapes, so quality is not good.

However, I want to put the 6hr tapes on DVD. I originally bought a Panasonic E30 standalone DVD-R burner to accomplish this (easy way out). It works, but the menus are terrible and I'm not happy with this. So I unearthed my Panasonic A03 DVD burner for the PC and wanted to dig in and learn how to burn my DVD's with my PC.

I capture all the VHS tapes using Adobe Premiere to .avi, they files are HUGE, but that's ok, I have the drive space. I then use TMPEnc to compress to MPEG-1....

so here's my question what settings in TMPEnc would work best to get the 6hrs to fit onto 1 DVD? Remember, quality isn't really an issue, since they are poor quality already.

Thanks again for all your help! THis forum is GREAT.

  2. I think you can fit about 6 hours worth if you encode it in VCD format, and follow the tutorial for writing VCD format on DVD-R.
