The latest Nero that came out a day ago supports the drive (5.5.9.17)

  3. I have checked the Nero web site and there is nowhere that I can see that the Sony DRU-500A is supported by version 5.5.9.17.

It still does not appear in their list "Supported Recorders" - which means, at least to me, that it is still not supported by them.

VEFF - where do you see that this drive is now supported?

Still, if the drive is not listed on supported writers list (www.ahead.de) it's not supported.

  6. RoopeT, we are 'on the same page', I also see this from some of your other posting on this subject.

    I agree with you.

I sent Ahead an e-mail yesterday asking them when they expected to include the DRU-500A in their supported drive list, but as yet, no reply!

Not true; their list hasn't been updated in a while according to what I have heard.
I have used other programs, where the drives weren't listed in their (outdated) lists, but worked fine nonetheless.

In any case, I burned a DVD-R with 5.5.9.17 and my DRU-500A on Saturday and had no problems at all (unlike 5.5.9.14 which made coasters on every burn with the DRU-500A).
Also note that cdrlabs did their entire review with 5.5.9.16 or 5.5.9.17

However, I would recommend Stomp or Veritas rather than Nero for DVD video since Nero-burned DVD video discs (with ANY supported DVD burner, not just DRU-500A) are NOT compatible with home DVD players in some (or many) cases.
But that is another story entirely...

  8. I just noticed that myself. I checked the entire list looking for 5.5.9.17 and came up with … none at all. Even though the relase note states "added several new recorders".

Makes me wonder what the point of having a list of supported recorders is.

Anyway sent their web-master an e-mail asking why it's not being updated and what their policy is.

    Lets see if they answer.

I don't know what these problems are. I used Nero 5.5.9.14 with DRU500A through the firewire drive house.

    Everything was peachy.

  11. I've checked the supported devices list, but you should scroll all the way down where it says

    DVD RW DRU-500AEIDE/ATAPI - x x 5.5.9.11B

So it's officially supported! I am therefore very interested in (a) the level
of support (if any) Ahead gives you and (b) if they are aware of the problem with 5.5.9.17.1 and when it will be fixed.

the "-" means that overburn is NOT supported (which is odd, because Nero InfoTool says it is).

    - Byte.

PS for the newbies, the NERO problem is that 5.5.9.17.1 (currently on their site, 12,636,965 bytes) won't close/lead-out DVD+R discs! However they are *not* coasters! You need to find an older 5.5.9.17 ".0" (13,327,639 bytes).
Just write a zero-size file (e.g. create a new text file but don't open it) to the coaster with the older 5.5.9.17 and the DVD+R will now be closed by NERO and the files will be readable.
