why can't my jvc xv-s500 play svcd's????

9 svcd's out of 10, i get a 'non-playable disc' error and I can't figure out why. The disc plays fine on my computer but that's not the point. Is there a certain type of media that works better on this player?

I am burning the discs with a plextor 16/10/40a which has never failed to burn anything in the past.

Any suggestions?
