  1. OK, I KEEP READING THE SAME THING THIS DVD PLAYER NEEDS VCD'S ON BLUE BOTTOM DISK, SILVER BOTTOM DISK, OR EVEN BLACK BOTTOM DISK, SOME NEED 650 MB DISK AND SOME NEED 700 MB DISK. WHY? IS THERE NOT JUST ONE PROFESSIONAL CD-R DISK I COULD BUY THAT WOULD BE UNIVERSAL! I MEAN WHEN YOU BUY A VCD FROM THE STORE IT WORKS ON ALL DVD\VCD PLAYERS. I HAVE TRIED SO MANY DISK TO FIND ONE THAT WOULD BE UNIVERSAL BUT NO LUCK. I HAVE BEEN READING UP ON DIAMOND CD-R DISK WOULD THESE WORK LIKE A STORE BOUGHT VCD DISK? PLEASE HELP ME FIND AN ANSWER.

  2. Hey it all depends on the DVD player you buy, My Toshiba 2050 is very picky on CD-R's, will only use the blue bottom ones only.......BUT!!!

I have a APEX 600a, 660 and my daughter has a APEX 500w these DVD players play ANY... Repeat ANY CD-R or CD-RW I throw at them.
The APEX's even play the new 99min. CD-R's with no problems.
Why spend big bucks when you can buy the APEX 500W for $98 at walmart or even the APEX 660 at SAMS club for $119.
The APEX 660 firmware can be upgraded to make it region and macrovison free, I know, mine is.

  3. For the 500w from walmart, do you have to buy it online or you can pick it up from a local store?

VCD and AudioCD that you bought in store are laser mastered ( I mean burn ).
CDR and CDR/W is using laser to change the property of the dye ( that's where the color come from ). CDR try to emulate CD's lasered holes, but they are ultimately different things!

    Basic Science Rule Again.

  5. Commercial discs are "pressed" and this process definitely doesn't involve using a laser to burn holes.

In a nut shell, the polycarbonate substrate has the data "stamped" on and then that surface is coated with a thin layer of aluminium (the reflective layer). This layer is then covered with a lacquer to protect it. This is why, scatches on the TOP of a disc are much more important than scratches on the bottom. When you scratch the top of a disc, you may be damaging the actual layer holding the data.
