I like VLC because it's free and it's, if not better, just as good.

    elreeko,
Regarding QT playing VCD... I don't know about it, because it doesn't play VCD for me. How did you do it? I am just curious.

No it won't because it can't read the CD.

  6. Quicktime will play VCD's, if you're booted into Classic that is.

  7. I'll try to set this straight...Quicktime 5 will play VCD's in OS 8/9 and OSX up to and including 10.1.5
Quicktime 6 does not play VCD's and Quicktime 5 doesn't play in Jaguar 10.2 and newer. It isn't yet known if this is a bug or if it is a feature. It does seem that it would have been fixed in either 6.01 or 6.02 if it was a bug.
Good point from someone that you can use Quicktime 5 in Classis within Jaguar as this would be the free way to play VCD's. VLC is a nice app but some disks play and some don't. In time it will be better. MacVCD-X is a great app but isn't free.

It has been my experience that quicktime (OS 9) will play vcds, but you cannot simply double click on the .dat file. In order to play them you have to double click on the .mov file that is found in the main folder. I have only been in the situation a couple of times where I have needed to play a vcd on my mac (instead of my console dvd player) and this way has always worked.

I haven't been able to test this in OS X as I have only ever done this with my laptop connected to a tv (so that I can see my desktop on screen) and unfortunately I don't have OS X loaded on it. I also haven't tried this since quicktime 6 came out.
