  1. HI,

I have a 830Mb file that I want to burn to a CD. Since this will exceed the disk capacity, I need to split it.

I am using MPGENC to do the split, but it only does a couple of hundred megs and it stops. I assume that the file has to be fixed some how, but how, and what tool?

    Any thoughts?

  2. You can try using the splitting tool in TMPGEnc (Files --> MPEG Tools --> CUT/Join )

instead of using up 2 cds... you could fit it on 90 Min CDR.. 1 90 min cdr shouldnt run you too much $$

  5. Ah.... Perhaps he is. For a moment I thought that MPGEnc was another product.

  6. Hi,

Yes, I have been using TMPGENC (sorry for the confusion). In my version though it is merge/cut, that is the same as cut/join, right?

  7. have you tried VirtualDub?if there is a problem with the avi,you can check it(file>open file>check the box popup....and i think you check re-derive...)
most of my cutting i have to extract the wav anyway, which VirtualDub does.
if there is no need to extract the wav file "avichop" is the easyest way to cut it in half. http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avichop.html
if there is part of it corrupt go to the tools page(tip:if you try to fix it copy the file somewhere since it may not copy the file(like divxfix)

  8. Hi Everyone,

Still no luck splitting a big MPEG file. I thought I would try a 90 min CD but it was not big enough.

I have tried splitting the file with TMPGENC but after a certain point the video stream is bad. Any suggestions?

    Thanks...

you said the MPEG was 830Mb. a 90min CDR should hold 900MB in MODE2. I believe your burner must support overburning to utilize 90min CDRs tho.. Perhaps your CD burner doesnt?

  10. Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Bear with me, what is MODE2?

The actual file size is 816mb.

i couldnt really tell ya the technical definition, all i know is that when you burn a video cd (svcd or vcd) its burnt in MODE2. and at MODE2 you get 10MB per MIN of the CD
    74MIN CD = 740MB
    80MIN CD = 800MB
    90MIN CD = 900MB

  12. Yes, I find it odd too. The file is supposed to be 816M and my blank CD is 850m, so something doesn't add up.

I use Nero to burn and once I drop the file in Nero says that it is "not a MPEG2, needs to be re-encoded" or something like that. I try letting Nero recode it, and still the file is too big.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

When Nero tell yous that, its because its not a standard (s)VCD
when it re-encodes it, its prob making it bigger..
i would hit the turn off standard complience button
    then burn.
Nero wont attempt to re-encode it, but there is a chance your DVD player wont play it then.. worth a shot tho

if you go into the preferences of NERO, you will have an expert tab, on this tab you will see a check box for overburn, i believe.
then try upping the time to 90 min for your 90 min cd
    then try burning again

I'm using ULEAD MF for authoring and burning and MF lets mpeg-2 up to 815MB to be burned on one 80-Min CD.

  20. You can also use DVTOOL to cut your file.
