  1. I have a Phillips DVD 711 player and am burning DVD-R's on a Pioneer dvr-104 with DVD Movie factory. I cannot get the DVD's to play on my player. I have read in this forum that the disc needs to have at least 4gb on it to play in this player. If I fill the disc up to that point I can sometimes get one of the chapters to play but most of the time I just get the menu screen and when I select a chapter it shows on the display of the player but it does not play. I have used both Memorex and Verbatim DVD-Rs. Any suggestions?
(Also, I have read you can add a file to the DVD called pad.dat to bring it up to 4gb. Any help on how to do this would be appreciated.)

I haven't noticed any playback problems with DVD-R on my Philips 622, and I think most Philips players have similar playback capabilities. Maybe updating the player firmware would help? http://philips.ianc.net/downloads.shtml

I also have a Philips 711 DVD player and, sadly, have never been able to get it to play DVD-R's, even with the latest firmware upgrades and >4Gb of data on the discs...

Not that that helps, but at least you know you're not alone.
