hi there. does it take longer to do a divx > xvcd or
divx > svcd than it does to do divx > vcd ?
does the difference in bit rate make for a longer (or shorter) conversion time? sorry if that is a stupid question.

Yes, it'll take longer to encode to SVCD/XSVCD than a VCD. A XVCD shouldn't show much difference in encoding time.
You could've found the answer from your own "testing" though...
Just use 30 sec samples.
