  1. I just used Derrow's new utils to rip/burn the following DVD-9's to 2 DVD+Rs:

    Gladiator
    Spider-Man
    Exit Wounds
    Braveheart

All 4 movies work in both of my settop players and all DVD-ROM drives. Derrow really could not have made it any simpler...more than worth a $25 donation! These 2 little apps are really goign to take the wind out of DVDXcopy's sails.

For anyone who is interested, you can get them here: http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/

BTW...it's nice not having a disclaimer on teh front of each DVD like you get with DVDXcopy.

  2. Actually...I have encountered my first problem. Although I think this is no fault of Derrow's tools, none of the DVDs will play in my ThinkPad DVD-ROM. They play fine in settop and my other 2 DVD-ROMs. Is this more of a problem with Nero? Is there another DVD mastering app I should try?

At first I thought it was just because I was using +RW. So I decided to try my first +R. Neither will play in the ThinkPad. However, everything I have burned using DVDXcopy works fine in all players (aside from it's other inherent problems).

    Any suggestions?

  3. Did you receive the software by email? I paid for dvdsplit last week, but I have not received it yet.

  4. I received via auto-email from Derrow. Had it within the hour.

  5. Some more info...

I tried switching to Gear Pro 6.02. Everything burned fine. I put the first DVD into my ThinkPad DVD-ROM..and...viola! I got the intro screen. BUT...that is as far as I got.

I then tried loading the same DVD using the Interactual player that Spiderman installed form a previous test. Same result. Up until this point, I had been using Mediamatics DVDExpress (I know...junk...but it is part of our core image at work).

Just for kicks, I put in the original DVD+RW that I burned using Derrow's DVDBurn (Uses Nero api) and tried playing that using the Interactual player. WORKED PERFECTLY! No skips, got all menus/extras...everything!

So...do I have a software player problem or a hardware compatibility problem...or both?

    John,
Spider-Man fits on 1 DVDr if you do the following:

    1. DVD Decrypter
    2. IfoEdit - remove extras
    3. burn Nero

I have also purchased dvdXcopy and DVDSplit but haven't had much time to spend using them yet.

  7. More...more info!

I lied in my last post. I burned Braveheart using Derrow's tools (2 DVD+Rs). Both discs behaved badly using both Mediamatics DVDExpress and Interactual Player on my ThinkPad. Both players would get to the opening screen and not go any further.

So...experiment #864. I installed a trial version of PowerDVD. Now everything works fine. I can't figure it out and I am done looking for reasons (at least until Derrow returns from his trip).

The long and short of it...backups play fine on both of my settop players and desktop DVD-ROMs. However, I had to install a player with a little more UMPHHH (like PowerDVD) to get the backups to play on my StinkPad.

At this point I feel like I am talking to myself, but hopefully domeone will find this info useful!

  8. Joe...interesting about Spider-man. I was certain that it was bigger than one DVDR. When I load disc1 into DVDDecrypter, it tells me that it is both dual layer and that the main movie files are 5,540,878KB.

How did you get this to fit on one DVDR without downsampling? Are the extras actually contained in the manin movie files and you ripped them out manually?

    Thanks,

    John

You are correct the size is over 5GB's. I just decided to try and strip out the menus, extra audio and subtitles to see what was left. The final size is a little over 4.3GB's when finished. No down sampling required.

Are you familar with IfoEdit? There are lots of GUIDES around but there still is a learning curve. That is where dvdXcopy or DVDSplit fit in the big picture. They require just a couple buttons to push and get the end result.

It plays GREAT on 1 DVDr! Give it a try and donate that 2 DVDr set to a newbie!

  10. Thx Joe. I have messed with Ifoedit enough to know how to rip stuff out (or at least I think I do). I just prefer to have menus and extras (more menus than anything else). That is why Derrow's new tools are an absolute dream to use!

  11. Hey there,

Just got my copy of DVD Split and had a quick question I was hoping someone could answer. I want to split an entire movie keeping the extras and all. But not sure how to do so. I can split just the movie by choosing the title with the most chapters in the first step but how do I split the entire disc keeping all.

    Thanks
