I know warez topics get a lot of "run" here. But it seems to me folks openly ask and direct people to places that can help them achieve this. My question is why is this not warez? Or is it? I'm certain the manufacturer wouldn't approve of you defeating the purpose of the restrictions I mentioned in the topic. I know it doesn't quite fit the "textbook" warez policy I just read under rules but.....
So what is it?

You are allowed to modify your hardware without infriging copyright laws. I am personally interested in region free DVD players because I import Zone 2 DVDs (foreign movies) that do not exist in Zone 1.
As far as disabling macrovision, it is assumed that you will only make backups of DVDs that you own. Anyways, backing up a DVD on VHS is kind of a waste of time as you end up with a low quality VHS copy. -
