Sony [b]DRU 500a [/b]Problems

I am using the Sony DRU 500a and have only successfully burned one DVD (the Sony DVD+RW that arrived with the drive) since then I have tried both Memorex and Verbatim DVD-R with no success. I am using the MyDVD software that arrived with the Burner, WinXP, I have a 1.5GHz, 512MB RAM, 2 80GB hard drives. I have no idea where to go from here. I need to record in DVD-R format in order to view it in my DVD player.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Paul, I also have this drive and am learning alot thru this site. Be sure to check the Hardware DVD Writers forum and the Media forum which have numerous helpful posts about the Sony. The following advice is not very specific but I don't want to merely repeat the same info from the two forums I mentioned.

These two things should definitely make a difference for your success in the short term: 1) until bugs/quirks are resolved between the Sony and certain media, only use the specific media listed as supported by Sony on their site. 2) Until Sony provides the promised software update, try the different updated software programs in combination with media that others on the VCDHelp forums have reported success with.
