I have a old Toshiba notebook with a docking station containing a couple PCI slots. My hope is to install a capture card and use this setup for basic capture. Another option would be an external USB based device.
My problem as you can expect is finding a card whose min system requirements are at or below mine.
Pentium w/mmx 233
128 megs RAM
S3 Virge/MX 4 meg video
Any thoughts?

I think your biggest problem would be HD speed. I know laptops tend have extremly slow HDs. But, everything else should be alright. I've got a capture/video/sound/modem card that I stuck in an old P166, and it never dropped any frames.
I'd say, look around for some PCI capture card with an onboard MPEG1 compressor. If you'd want to try what I got, here's one on Ebay...

I've never tried a laptop with 2 video cards, so I can't say this will work... -
Capture cards based on MJPEG hardware codecs are good choices too. As said before your HD speed will be your biggest problem since capture cards can often take care of the processing, but your HD will still need to handle the storage in realtime.

The real solution for capturing on minimum specs is a faster and bigger computer. It is recommended to be at least 800 Mhz.
I got an old computer at just 350 Mhz and this one can't handle capturing and DVD-ROM movie play. So, don't waste your time on a slow computer.
Get Pentium 4 computer or laptop.
