  1. Hello. I have question about capture from digital video camera. Most people say I need a card the called FireWire. On my Motherboard ASUS P4PE are already to contacts IEEE 1394. Can I use them, or I have to get some extra card? If so, are there some one that tell my a card that work?

I Have P4, 2800MHz, 2x180MB SATA Segate in Raid. 1024MB RAM, Sony DVD DRU-500AX burner.

    Thanks in advance
    Best regards

  2. IEEE 1394 is Firewire. They're the same thing... IEEE 1394 is the technical name, and Firewire is a trade name. Sony calls it iLink, as well.

Sounds like your PC already has a built in firewire (1394) card. All you need now is a firewire cable (make sure it has the right connectors). I am assuming the port on your PC is a larger connector than the one on the DV camcorder.

  4. Thank You for Your answer. So you mean that I do not have to get an extra card. I can use the contacts that already are on my motherbord?

    Sorry for my English

    Thanks in advance

IF you are sure it is a 1394 port, then yes.
Just get a firewire (1394) cable and you are set to start capturing.

    good luck.

The P4PE comes in different types. Some with firewire.

Normally there is an F extension(among others) in the model number indicating firewire is included.

Firewire and i.link is basically the same. The only diffence is that i.link (your camera) does not include power supply. Thus you would need a 6/4 firewire cable. 6 pin plygs fits your PC outlet and the 4 pin fits your DV cam. The 2 pins not used beeing the power supply.

ASUS, among others, uses cards that fits in the expansions slots to provide all the additional ports. Open your computer to verify that these are connected to your motherboard if you do not get your DV stream through.

    Hope this clarifies matters.

  7. Yes I know. As hardware technical I'm sure about the moderbord has the Firewire connection. But I new in videocapturing. So all information about this, is gold. Are there some things else that I should think about? Do I need some extra software, or could I use "normal" software for capturing, like MovieMaker 2, Adobe Premiare, Ulead Video Studio (like that). ? Comes the DV camera with drivers or, need drivers?

    Thanks in advance.

  8. You can use any capture application that recognizes your DV camcorder as a video input device when it is powered on and connected to your Firewire port. I use MyDVD, Pinnacle Studio 7, ShowBiz, and Ulead DVD MF2 and they all do this. It's fairly standard across the industry.

I use Windows Movie Maker 2. I capture as DV-AVI and then I can edit, cut my movie all in one. It is pretty slick for a freebie...
