  1. 1) I know I can get subtitles and different languages, but I wouldn't ever use any of that. I don't really ever use subtitles. But I was curious if it is possible to use the exact same preview menu on an SVCD as there is on the DVD. For instance, before every DVD Feature presentation, there is a menu that is animated like the Matrix, etc, where you can select certain options, languages, chapters, etc. Would I be able to rip/burn that menu for SVCD? If not, is there any reason why? Is the file size too big to fit that and the movie on a CD-R, or the format, etc?

    2) Is it possible to encode dolby "digital" from a DVD? When DVD2SVCD shows the possible audio options, I see AC3/6 channel. Isn't that Dolby Digital? If so, is there any reason why it can't be encoded? I'd appreciate any help on either of these. Thanks in advance

  2. 1) yes, of course you can rip that menu.. (thesadays we can rip everything)

    2) you can encode AC3/6 (witch is indeed Dolby surround). You get a program(witch i just forgot the name of ) and you ask to convert the AC3/6 -> WAV file

  3. 1) I think that menus are supported in SVCD's, I know that chapters are. I think there's a guide somewhere on this site but I can't remember where.

    2) SVCD (or VCD) does not support Dolby Digital. It uses MPEG 1 Layer II. This is basically a stereo signal whoch will carry Dolby Surround (because that is encoded in a stereo signal). The Dolby Digigtal sound can be downmixed into Dolby Surround by all the good programs like BeSweet, HeadAc3he, DVD2SVCD, etc. SVCD's do support MPEG 5.1 but that is rarely supported by standalone players and not that easy to encode apparently. There is a guide for MPEG 5.1 from .avi files with .ac3 sound though at...

I'm sure someone else will be able to explain all of this better than me though...and I would like to know how to rip the DVD menu's myself so...Anyone...

  4. thanks for the info, it is appreciated. I knew programs like besweet, etc, could encode to Dolby "surround", I was just wondering if Dolby "digital" or 5.1 could be encoded. But that has now been answered, thank you both. Dolby surround sounds just fine with me. As far as those introductory menu's on DVD's go, does anyone know of a link I can go and get more info? I'm just curious how that would work, since most of those menus seem to repeat themselves every 30 seconds or so. I would like to see if it would do the same on a ripped/encoded SVCD. Also, there are chapter selectors, and being that I would have at least 2 SVCD's/CD-R's for each movie, would the menu functions actually be accessible on the DVD? Or would they just there for show?
