Hey all,
I'm pretty new to Digital Video (been reading tons of info these last few days) and I'm planing on converting a library of VHS tapes (taped off TV) to digital.
I'm interested in both playing the end result files on the computer (via Monitor) and also via TV-out (graphics card) to the TV.
So my problem is this: De-interlacing the video would be best for playback on the computer monitor, but keeping it interlaced (the combe/weave effect) would be best for playing it on the TV.
So what I'm wondering (can't seem to find this info anywhere), is if there are any media players out there that are capable of "mimicking" what a tv does, ie. playing interlaced video and doing the "de-interlacing" on the fly?
(What I'm thinking is that the player would take 30FPS "interlaced" video, extract the 2 fields from the frame, and then display the video like a tv, drawing each new field over the old picture. (60 fields /sec))
That way I could keep the video interlaced (so it plays well on the tv), but still be able to get it to play well on the monitor.
Any hints/help would be appreciated, thanks

all players such as windvd and powerdvd and cinemaster do the de-interlacing on the fly for a pc monitor and all of the above allow some adjustment to various degree's ... media player also does it but no adjustment ..

Thanks for the quick reply BJ,
Are any of the above listed media players able to play DivX encoded video? I know some DVD players do this (deinterlace) but the ones I have tried are only able to play MPEG-2 video.
So I'm hoping to find a player that does this, but can support additional. formats (at a minimum, just DivX, but ideally more)
Thanks again for the help

All progressive DVD player de-interlace on the fly.
Because most of the DVD disc are encode with 480i video. -
Re: Sing Sing
Heh, I guess that would make sense
Do you know of any Progressive "Media Players" (Not just DVD, but additional video formats) that deinterlace on the fly?
May goal is to have interlaced DivX encoded video. When I want to watch it on the TV via tv-out I can play it interlaced, and when I want to watch it on the computer monitor I can use a progressive player with "on the fly" deinterlacing.
Think this is possible, or am I asking for too much?
Thanks,
Aggies
