  1. I have a store bought VHS tape that I want to transfer to DVD-R. It is approximately 2 Hours long. I have an aiw128 pro. Need to know best way to capture and get the best quality possible. Do I capture and burn at 740x480 or is this a waste????

It is a waste. VCR resolution is no more than 352x480, so capture at that. If you capture higher from VCR it will only bring out the nasty artifacts that are part of VCR tapes.

Then encode to 352x480 which is 1/2 DVD, and if you get the bitrate set right based on the movie you will be able to fit 2 normal movies per DVD.. Or one really long movie that would have taken 2 DVD's on to 1 DVD (Titanic, Godfather, Etc)

  4. Thanks for the replies. Needed to confirm what I already knew. Which is, the resolution from a VHS at 740x480 is a waist of time. I’ll go with CVD specs.
    Thanks again.

  5. One more question. Should I capture with the highest biterate possible without dropping frames with virtualdub then convert using 2550 bitrate??
