  1. Need some help from CCE users...

I'm trying to convert DV AVI (firewire captured from Sony miniDV cam) to MPEG2 using CCE. The captured file is over 10 GB.

CCE 2.50 won't recognize the file, CCE 2.64 and 2.66 both load the file, but stop dead after approx 45 frames. WinXPPro is not locked, but I need to "End Process" for CCE.

Feeding CCE with AviSynth results in the same stoppage after ~45 frames.

I know many are using CCE successfully.... I hoped to use CCE because of its speed advantage over TMPGENC, which handles this file without any problems.

Possibly a bad frame that tmpgenc could handle but cce can't? Try encoding from frame 46 and on, then see if you get another 45 frames or if it works just fine.

Also try different files, or when using avisynth start after a few seconds to skip over the potential bad part (so cce doesn't even know that part of the file exists).

  3. OK... I tried your suggestion by starting on frame 46.... CCE processed another 45 frames, then stopped. Clicking CANCEL does not exit ... must use "end process".

I should mention that I am trying to run multipass-VBR when it fails. Running CCE in CBR gets past the 45th frame and seems to continue fine.

    Also, I'm a CCE/AviSynth newbie. I've been using TMPGENC.

I'm not really sure why you have such problem but it also happen to me from time to time, most of the time multi-pass VBR fails during .vaf file creation.

So instead of multi-pass VBR I select 1-pass VBR.
CCE usually succeed to create the video file and the .vaf file.

Once the .vaf is there I can select multi-pass VBR.

    Hope this will help.

Thanks for the advice. You are correct. Once the VAF file is created, I can do multipass-VBR. I've run into another problem, however. When I use TMPGENC to multiplex the CCE MPV and MPA files together, I get an error message at the end of the mux, "355209 s packets cause buffer underflow. The MPEG file might cause error when it played."

I tried muxing the CCE MPV with a TMPGENC/toolame MP2 but got a similar message. I also tried BBMPEG to mux the video and audio but got a similar message.

The resultant MPGs play fine, but the error messages must mean I'm still doing something wrong.

I've had such error message few times as well I don't know why.

The file plays OK on PC and DVD player and I never notice any sync problem so I didn't search further.

THe message is telling you that your bitrate is too high for SVCD standards. Depending on your STB and media you may or may not have a problem.
