*update, found out that im using a drx-500ul , not 500a,even nero says that.. (PS! I didnt buy this burner,my dad did,and he lent it to me, so i assumed what nero said was right...therefore,i believed it was 500a)
Hello!
I'm having lots of trouble with Sony DRX-500UL.
First, I cant burn DVD R- media with it, YES, i do have
the latest, at least the version that supports my burner.
I've tried with *Accu Dvd media, and Ritek DVD Media.
None of them work. Yes, I also have the latest firmware.
I have a desperate hope of getting help from anybody,
so i copied and pasted the logfile into this post.
Its not only Nero that I'm having trouble with, also DVDdecryptor
does not work.
When i tried it last time (and I've tried it 5-6 times),
it found the dvdmedia, and was about to start, but, for some odd reason
it just did not start. And Im very happy that it didnt do the same
shit as Nero, cause nero flamed me 6/6dvds.
The only program that works, is the Veritas software
that follows the burner, but, thats stupid, cause I like Nero a lot
more, it has more features, and i need to use dvd-decryptor.
PS! Nero did work with Verbatium 2.5x R+ media!
I'm hoping to get answers and a sollution, Sangofe.
Dont forget to read the Nero log file!

Your problems is

try the latest driver at Adaptec

thanks for the link, but, it didnt solve my problem.
I still have the same error. -
You have multisession set to true. Most standalone DVD players do not read multisession disks. You want multisession to be false (you're burning the disk once) and Finalize = true (you're done with this movie).

Hm, I guess it because i downloaded the most recent nero today that its the same.
And, I turned off multisession in the options, yet, nero thinks that i want to do multisession... -
Is this an external USB/Firewire Drive? That's a completely different set of problems.
To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
yeah...
its External, USB 2.0 Burner...
edit/added info: I do have the latest firmware... -
Sony DRU-500A is not external. Did you put it in extrenal enclosure ? Based on your log file, it might be problem. Put it back to PC IDE port.
What about that ahead WinASPI entry missing ? -
the "Sony DVDRW DRU-500A" I have is an external burner that works with the USB system, I have USB 2.0
extrenal enclosure ?
Hm, i dont even know how i set it to that...
About the ahead winaspi, i dont know -
Go to Nero.com and get ASPI if you don't have one. (Read instructions)
Again... Did you place it in enclosure ? Or it came like that ?
Sont DRX-500UL is external version of 500A -
Hm,i had allready downloaded that file from nero.com
It was the one they say to copy and paste in nero folder, oh well, that didnt work.
That winaspi.dll file that is located at Nero...It doesnt has a thing to do with Nero 5.5+ versions, its for upgrading Nero 4...
"How can I update Nero 4.0 from previous Nero Releases (older than 4.0.8.3)?
Nero Releases older than 4.0.8.3 cannot be installed under Windows 2000,
because the driver within this Nero Releases cause that Windows 2000 does not boot anymore.
Please download Nero Demo 4.0.9.1 from our website
Please install this Nero Release
Please download the WNASPI32.DLL file and follow the above mentioned instructions.
Now start Nero. Now you can enter the serialnumber you got for unlocking the demo.
Now you have a full working Nero Release.
"
Also, i have WinME, not 2000. -
Sorry, but what does "enclosure " mean?
I'm norwegian and there are certain words i do not know in english...
Edit:
In nero, and veritas, both programs says the burner is DVD RW DRU-500a burner.. -
Look here... http://www.meritline.com/firusben.html
You have some Private Messages from me...

Fix your header (subject) you have Sony DRX-500UL
And I believe problem is in your USB connection. But I might be wrong. -
I had the same problem with the Sony Recorder made a number of coasters, It was the USB connection Nero does not work with a USB connection I switched to the Firewire connection and now everything is OK Try switching to Firwire The Sony takes both Inputs

the word [/b]enclosure means it it is in a seperate case, Enclosure is something that encloses someting. I hope this helps.

Hello!
After changing the USB to firmware, and installing the updated
winasp32.dll file, i got it working !! ( I dont know
why i had trouble installing this updated file, but,
I finally got it working after trying loads of times!)
Even though I now can burn without erros-
I still have a strange error...
Every time I load nero, and windows media player, i get this error:
NeroApix:
Could not open driver. Trying system ASPI.
(take a look at the screencapture I made):
http://www.dbz-dvd.com/%7Edbgtdub/neroapix.jpg
This is not an error that corrupts the burning, but, still, its
annoying.
At last but not least, i would like to thank all of you a LOT for
helping me out with this, you've really helped me a lot -
That error message looks like now you have truble with Nero ASPI driver. Try to reinstall (copy to Nero dir) it. Or maybe even reinstalling Nero.
-
well,i have tried several times to unistall nero, and use the aspi nero file like it says at nero webpage
-
I have a Sony 500UL and it works fine without an External Enclosure. I am curious as to what this Enclosure is supposed to do....just dissipate heat? is it really necesary?

Even though I have a USB 2.0 port, and it should be compatible, it wasn't.
I made sure it wasn't buffer underflow problems, and disabled all antivirus software to be safe.
Once I switched to the firewire port, everything worked perfectly with all the above listed programs plus others.
You may want to try the firewire port if you have a connection on your PC.
