Eazy VCD v1.08 Now available for download

Hi there,

Just wanted to let you know that i've just put up the new version (1.08) of Eazy VCD.

I've fixed all the bug that people have told me about and a few more.

I have also put in automatic file splitting and Eazy VCD can also output to a Bin/Cue Image now too.

Version 1.08
- Fixed problem where if your temp directory path had a space (" ") in it, it would not rip, it would just keep telling you to play the DVD for a few seconds and try again or would cause an error.
- Now supports automatic file (MPEG) splitting.
- Now supports output to Bin/Cue files (vcd 2.0).
- No longer encodes to mp2 with BeSweet (Had to change to make file split work).
- Fixed problem where the audio combo box data was not mapping to the correct audio track.
- TMPGEnc will now close when finished encoding the batch job.
- Eazy VCD now saves the current settings when closed, and loads them when started.
- Resized GUI to fit on 640x480 display.
- Fixed problem where vStrip would not be able to find a key on some DVD discs and would just seem to hang.
- Added a "Scan DVD" button to re scan the DVD, that way you don't have to restart the program when you put another DVD in.
- The "Output File Name" now defaults to the name of the DVD disc.
- You can now minimize the Eazy VCD window.

Known Bugs
- The first time you use Eazy VCD and it get's up to the TMPGEnc Encoding stage, TMPGEnc will show you a Splash screen, you must select the "Don't show this dialog again at startup" check box and then click ok. You will never see it again.

To Do List
- Enable to rip vob's to hard drive for conversion later.
- Enable conversion from vob's on hard drive.
- Enable selection of mutiple program chains for encodeing.

Hello mate

Just tried v1.8 and the "can't open d2v" with TMPGEnc problem seems to have retured. Fell back to v1.7 and had no problems (was running the ASPI version downloaded from your site anyways).

Not overly bothered with file splitting so v1.7 does me fine, just thought I'd advise. Using Windows 2000 BTW.

this problem happend when you have DVD2AVI or TMPGEnc or another version of Eazy VCD Installed.

The VFPlugin Keys in the registery need to be pointing to the programs in the Eazy VCD directory.

The 1.08 installer puts these keys to the correct directorys.

so I am a little confused as to why they would not be working.
in any event, the second time you use Eazy VCD, it should work fine.

Just some Q's out of curiousity:

- Does the program support plugin's like CCE ?
- Does it support Subtitles ?
- What's the main reason why to use this above DVDx ? What makes it better ?

Momentally I am stuck with DVDx and FlasK. Both supprt subs and plugins) Both have their own problem (FlasK crashes too often) DVDx doesn't have all the options I'd like to see in it.

Hey Mars-L,

Here are the answers to your questions.

no need to support plugin's like CCE as it is all built in.

Eazy VCD does not support subtitles, and probley never will.

The main reason to use Eazy VCD above DVDx is Ease of use.
In the current version, all you have to do is click the button "RIP IT"
no other settings to do, unless you want to, and even then it saves your last used settings.

Let me know what other features you are looking for, and i may write them in in the future.

I do plan to add featurs like "rip from vob's on hard drive" and "XVCD encodeing" in the next relese.

Can someone please help and let me now how to change the conversion settings to create a SVCD instead of a VCD, I know you can load templates in TMPGenc, but if I do that, then run Eazy VCD, it changes back to VCD.

Otherwise, this program is amazing, so simple to use, its brill...

Thanx for the reply. The simple use might be interesting for a whole lot (I think even MOST) of people who just wanna make a copy of their DVD's. Personally I want to use the full capacity of 2 CDR's for a movie, so need to do the SVCD bitrate settings.
Besides I'm one of the world-citizen that has children that don't speak/read/understand English prior to their (about) 12th year (Besides: Even though my English is pretty good...I still prefer subs)
So a movie without subs is out of discussion.

There is no support for SVCD as yet, it may be added in the future though.

The next relese will include XVCD support, so you can have higher bitrate video (or smaller if you wanna squeeze it on one disc)

that will be an improvement for sure, I would rather fill 2 CD`s with high quality video / sound rather than squeeze it onto 1. for the price of a CD it`s just not worth the quality loss.

Hi, I dowloaded and tried Eazy VCD and am quite impressed. Firstly, I got a result that played smoothly with no audio or video glitches and no synch problems. I did have one problem and I'll get to that soon.

Most of the DVDs I burn to VCDs are NTSC Film at 23.97 fps. I was ripping Changing Lanes today. I looked at the DVD2AVI info screen while it was running within Eazy VCD and it said it was 99% Film but 29.97 fps. I probably would have messed up the TMPG settings if I was doing it the manual way, and wouldn't have known whether to force film or not in DVD2AVI (I wouldn't have checked the force film box because it was not at 23.97 -don't know if that's right or not?)

Anyway, whereas I probably would have picked the wrong settings, Eazy VCD got it right. The only problem I had was that the final product was produced at the correct 16:9 aspect ratio, but instead of getting a solid black bar above and below the video, the black band was half grey. So from the top down, it was black - grey - the video - black - grey. I pre-set 16:9 aspect ratio and NTSC in Eazy VCD. My question is: by doing that did I override the proper setting, and what should the default setting be so that Eazy VCD makes the right choice?

Hey Morloc,

With NTSC (Forced) Film,
Ignor all the guides that show you how to do it, Forget the forced Film template in TMPGEnc, and forget about setting to Forced Film in DVD2AVI.
Just encode it as a normal NTSC movie and all will be well.

With the Black and Grey bars,
this is normal, and it very noticable on a computer monitor, but when you pop it in your DVD Player it will look fine (Unles you have the contrast and brightness way up).

There is a new version of Eazy VCD out now (v1.09).
It fixes incompatabialty problems with windows 95, 98 and ME.
there is also a fix for when the path names contains a ', TMPGEnc encoding will fail.

Actually, the situation is just the opposite. My movie with the black and grey bands plays fine inside a black frame on my PC, but I see the grey and black bands on my TV (factory default settings). I have never seen this effect before and it is distracting. Any way to fix it?

Slight correction to previous post. Movie plays with black bands in Windows Media Player, but with black and grey bands in Power DVD. Wouldn't be so bad if black bands were directly above and below the video, but the grey bands are, and the lack of contrast is what is distracting.

try lowering and fine tuneing your brightness controlls on your tv and monitor.

I hvae the following settings on my tv

Contrast 40%
Brightness 55%
Colour 70 %

OK, I can certainly do that, but what causes the black and grey, and can it be corrected (i.e. by a different TMPG template or other solution). I have converted many movies from DVD to VCD, and I've never seen this before.

ok, this is why you get the different one black bars.

There are two types of aspect ratios on DVD, 16:9 and 4:3
4:3 is the same size (proportions) as a normal TV
16:9 is the same size (proportions) as a widescreen TV

movies that are in 2.31:1 and other aspect ratio's are transfered onto a 16:9 template. So in other words the movie is left as 2.31:1 and they add extra black to fill it up to 16:9. So the movie is a 16:9 Transfer.

when you encode in TMPGEnc, TMPGEnc will take the 16:9 Transfer, and add extra black to fill it up to 4:3.

So then you have some black added by the Movie it's self and then some black added by TMPGEnc. These are never exactly the same shade of black.

If you encode a move that is actualy 16:9 and not a 16:9 transfer, you will not see the black lines as there is only one shade of black added (no black on the original movie). This will also be the case on 4:3 movies and 4:3 Transfers too, as TMPGEnc will not add any black, cos it's all ready filled out to 4:3.

It makes a lot of sense. Thanks for clearing up the confusion for me. Apart from this issue which has nothing to do with Eazy VCD, your front end works perfectly, and is indeed the easiest way I have seen yet to transfer a DVD to a VCD. I'm anxious to try it again on my next movie.

I am by no means an old pro at this but I have encoded 100+ DVD's to VCD or SVCD so I think I have a good grasp of it. This really is an easy way to do it. Pretty much, load the DVD and press go. My only complaint would be for the more advanced users who want to do multi pass VBR or just prefer some more flexibility.

If you are going straight to VCD....this is DEFINETLY a piece of software worth giving a try!!!!!!!!!!

I have Eazy VCD version 1.09 and when i load in the DVD and start up Eazy VCD, i get a message saying "Runtime Error '53'" i don't know whats wrong. I also tried playing the DVD in PowerDVD and when I press play, i get a screen for "Edit Playlist" Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just read this forum and I'm anxious to try Eazy VCD version 1.09.

I get the impression from some of the posts that it will fit the movie into 1 CD only ? Is this true or can I control the quality where it might create files or a file that might span more than 1 CD ?

Remember - lower bitrate always equals lower quality. I don't think anyone would ever reccomend that you try to squeeze 90 to 100 minutes of video onto one disc. I have excellent results encoding to MPEG1 at about 2025Kbs/352x240. That will put 45-50 minutes onto a disc with a pretty good picture and 224Kbs sound

Just tried Eazy VCD.....After trying a great number of products...and spending hours I have finally found the ideal prog.

Awsome....well designed and works very well........spent long time trying to rip 2 particular movies.....with smartripper.decrypter etc.....and both failed.

Tried Easy VCD.... WITH SOME doubt....and results fantastic.....simple to use basically walk away.

THIS IS PERFECT - JUST WHAT A NEWBIE NEEDS.

Watch each window to understand what's happening when it's referenced in the guides.

BUT...

When I rip Black Hawk Down (R2) - TMPGEnc shows the error "MPEG license has expired"

I didn't think MPG was licensed.

Can anyone explain and let me know what I need to do to get this working.

* DIVX (AVI) to VCD Conversion - a lot of downloaded movies are DIVX and I would find it useful if there were a common interface (such as EO Video) that converts to VCD MPG and performs the file splitting.
* Bug Fix - If the destination folder contains a space then I get the old message of "Please play in s/w player first" - as soon as I remove the space, it rips ok - except my problem above!

going from a good, high quality encode of divx to standard vcd 2.0 would be a big let down in terms of quality...

more comparable would be divx to svcd or at least xvcd

The MPEG Licence Has Expired Message is because Eazy VCD uses the free version of TMPGEnc and after 30 days the MPEG-2 Licence expires.
It will still encode MPEG-1 fine.

If you have TMPGEnc Plus, you can drop it in the C:\Program files\Eazy VCD\TMPGEnc folder.

as for the Space in the output folder........i'll look into it.

and the error 52......looking into aswell.

Hello,

Last nite I used EazyVCD and ripped X-MEN DVD to CUE/Bin files. I'll try burning them later when I get home.

I gave up on DVD ripping because I always had audio-sync issues with the program I was trying, DVDx 2.0. I have a small stack of coasters as a reminder!! I just read about Daemon tools... wish I knew about it b4 the coasters!! Hopefully, this issue won't come up using Eazy VCD. So far, I don't see any posts about audio-sync... does EazyVCD guarentee that this won't happen?

The 1 thing I did like about DVDx2.0 is I can selectively rip small sections of the movie given I knew at what particular times to start and finish... good for making "best of" clips

Also... is it better to rip into CUE/BIN files or MPG???

Followup...

WOW ... that's all I can say! Using Daemon tools, I burnt the 1st CD of the ripped X-men and I am impressed. The overall quality seems to be better than DVDx2.0... which seemed to have a more "grainy" look. The key thing is... NO AUDIO-SYNC PROBLEMS!!!
