    Based on my personal experience;

    1. use VCD, there is NO advantage to using svcd for stills. VCD resolution for jpegs is 704 x 480.

    2. I use NERO so I just crop or otherwise limit my jpegs to a little under the 704x480 if I want to avoid cropping or choping the edges off from the TV overscan.

    3. NERO lets you select the amount of time for each slide or you can set tehm all to the same value. Default is either infinate or 5 seconds. I like about 6-7 seconds for most slides.

    I put hundreds of slides on a 3" CDR in videoCd format.

  5. i see you have win xp. i do the following in movie maker;
    import all jpegs to one collection
    click and drag to the timeline
    transition by switching timeline views to timeline from story board then click on clip and drag onto preceding clip so that it overlaps.
    save move ( i use dv avi but u can use video for broad band its real good) then convert using tmpenc and burn with your favorite. i use ulead dvd workshop to add title screen and chapters

    d load the newest movie maker beta and its even easierto do! and alot more transitions
